Chris,

Thanks for the great review! I write for the Mindjet blog and often post mapping best practices, templates, customer stories, and product news. Stop by and check it out!

Cheers, Michael

@SteveW - I use mind mapping for the same types of challenges: getting my head around complex problems. I especially like how the software lets you easily experiment with different hierarchies, so that entire sections of thought can be moved around and seen in different parts of the big picture.

I've personally tended to rely upon mindmaps as a personal productivity tool, rather than as an interpersonal communications tool. The few times I've shared my mindmaps with others, it's been to illustrate the big picture; for example, where one specific component (like a sub-project) fits into the grand scheme of things. It's a helpful exercise, but not really a primary document.

Mostly their value, for me, is in helping to sort through the cacophony in my brain.

I find that mind mapping software is often helpful for me to get my head around complex problems, challenges or situations I face, but that it is not always that effective as a communication tool. Can you give me some examples of how you have used this software to improve your productivity and communication with internal or external teams?
